Take OFF The Cape!

It’s a bird 🕊️! It’s a plane ✈️! No, it’s you! Just look at you, saving the city again! But I have a question for you…who called you to that? Aren’t you tired? Aren’t you ready to be released from that call? Don’t you want to throw away the “Bat Signal” and utterly destroy it?

I gave up my cape 👏🏽. And I don’t feel bad about it. I don’t want it anymore. I found out that it didn’t serve me; it kept me bound and stagnant. Most times we think it’s fear that’s keeping us stagnant but sometimes it’s the Superhero effect.

How did you get here? How did you end up a superhero? Was it because you were the oldest sibling or the only one? Was it because of your title: mom, dad, boss, supervisor, CEO, pastor, 1st Lady, axillary leader, mayor, governor. Or your character: the dependable one, the good one, the one who always say yes? Or is it because of past hurts: rejection - so now you respond with people pleasing, trauma - so now you give trauma responses, self-gratification/wanting to be recognized (since you lacked it growing up) - wanting everyone to “see” you and what you do and how good you are, or protection - because you refuse to let what happened to you to happen again or to any one you love?

I know how I got my cape. I’m not pleased about it but encompasses of a few things: my upbringing, who I am and gifted to be, rejection, people pleasing, trauma response, and fear. I never wanted people to feel how I felt when I was rejected and always told no or being treated as if I was inadequate. And I’m overall generally a nice person. But I’ve come to learn something about all of that, I knew who I was but lacked the knowledge of how to steward who I was. This only came with understanding and allowing the LORD to speak into my life. It also came with me working on myself. I had to become my own Superhero, to be brave enough to face me and admit that “gurl, you need work!” 😩

Understand that when you “hang up” your cape, all the demons of hell are going to start all kinds of chaos to keep you in a superhero mindset to consume your life upholding the heroics. It’s not going to want to let you go but you have to recognize the enenmy’s tactics. Boundaries must go up, No’s must be spoken, Choosing you must be priority, and Guilt has to be let go. Get you some prayer partners too. They’ll help you through the transition.

We’ve become exhausted, overly tired, stretched beyond our capacity, overwhelmed, and frustrated. That all comes with trying to do someone else’s job and His name is Jesus. He did the best heroic acts, something we could never achieve. Allow Him to be the Superhero that the people (who call on you) need. He’s equipped nor does He get tired. He was built for this. His capacity is limitless. Give Him back his cape. He wants it. And wants you to get rid of it. You have a Father who needs you to do what you have been called to do but haven’t been able to because you are too busy using your time, gifts, and talents rescuing others. Now, you don’t have the energy, strength, or capacity to say Yes to the LORD because you’ve said yes to everyone and everything else.

It’s time for you to put down your cape, give the job back to Jesus, and say Yes to God. You’ll feel so much better when you do; I know I did 😉.
