Treat People Right!

Treating people right should be a straightforward, already knowing, thought process, right? But unfortunately, it isn’t. We live in a world where handling people any kind of way is most times rewarded and laughed at by others.

I am going to share a little bit of my diary. Growing up, I was bullied quite often because of how small I was and I would cry often because I just wanted friends. So, instead of just finding “my people” (who would accept me for who I was), I became a bully later on. People would call me mean and I couldn’t see it. But I’ll tell you what I could see…

Folk mishandling me

Crying all the time

Dealing with rejection

Always having to fight

Dealing with a broken heart time and time again…That’s what I saw. And the people I bullied and was mean to for no reason; they had done nothing to me. They didn’t deserve it and I feel bad about it whenever I think about them. What’s worse is I can’t remember their names or even what they would look like today. I pray and hope they don’t live a certain type of life because of how I treated them. I really pray and hope they are okay because it was not okay for me to treat them like that.

As I have journeyed with the LORD after all these years, I do my best to treat everyone well. I understand now, the wrong I did and I also understand that if I’m to bring and draw others to Christ, I must show Him to them first with my actions and character. It is never my intention to actively hurt someone or to be mean to them and I will quickly apologize if I’m approached and told that I’ve hurt them.

We have to be careful how we are introducing Jesus. It does not matter if we are being watched or not. We want our spouse to change or come to Christ, but we are not being Christ-like. We want our children to live a saved life but they don’t know what that looks like because we are not behaving Christ-like. We want things to change in our lives but we are mistreating people and God is not pleased. Repent and Turn from mishandling people and watch things change in your life.
